Charles Hands III
Originally from Wilmington, North Carolina, Charles, a Tar Heel fan since the age of thirteen, enrolled at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (“UNC”) with a full-ride scholarship. It has always been Charles’ dream to obtain a position in life to help others; thus, he was on track to become a medical doctor. However, the legal field made a calling to him as another means to the same end.
After graduating from UNC, Charles enrolled at North Carolina Central University School of Law (“NCCU”). While at NCCU, Charles was a NCCU Foundation Scholar, CITI Scholar, Contracts Teaching Assistant, and Senior Editor of the prestigious NCCU Law Review. Further, Charles founded the Dean’s Ambassadors Program where he served as Lead Ambassador to the Dean.
Charles has gained experience as an intern with the largest public utility in the United States, Duke Energy. Also, Charles has worked as a legal intern for the Honorable Judge Wanda G. Bryant at the North Carolina Court of Appeals. In his final year of law school, Charles was a member of NCCU’s Civil Litigation Clinic where he performed the following: (1) researched the inner-workings of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to protect people’s constitutional rights from those acting under the color of law; (2) drafted pleadings in landlord-tenant dispute issues; (3) and orchestrated a strategy to successfully pierce the corporate veil of a large business entity.
