Background

After graduating from Fayetteville State University, David earned his juris doctorate with high honors, magna cum laude, from North Carolina Central University School of Law (“NCCU”). While at NCCU, he was a Thurgood Marshall Scholar, NCCU Foundation Scholar, and Senior Editor of the prestigious NCCU Law Review. David also worked brief stints as a summer associate with the following legal employers: (1) Parker, Poe, Adams & Bernstein, LLP; (2) Moore & Van Allen; and (3) First Union’s legal department, which is now Wells Fargo.

After passing the North Carolina Bar Examination on his first attempt, David gained invaluable experience as an antitrust Attorney with the Federal Trade Commission in Washington, D.C.  While there, he worked with a team of attorneys and economists evaluating the competitive effects of multi-million dollar mergers/acquisitions in the petroleum and pipeline industries.

David founded Hands Law Office, PLLC in early 2004. Since its founding, the firm has advocated for thousands of clients in North Carolina. David and his wife, Judge Ty Hands, are the proud parents of two sons: David Jr. and Devin. They are members of St. Paul Baptist Church
